I would have a hard long night of typing all of the (American)championship motorcycle riders that have never rode for HD. Why didn't they ride for HD? Because HD doe not have nothing to offer to a champion. HD doesn't evolve. They can't let go of there 1950's water pump technology to compete with the rest of the world.

Well let me tell you a story I had '86 shadow it developed a hesitation the dealer said anything over 10 years was obsolete they could not fix the problem, so what do you do, try to fix it your self the parts are not being made anymore... Well,all the Brit bikes back then were Lucas (Lord ofDarkness electrics,and need some electrical modifications, so they would'nt be constant pains in the ass. Commando's were nice cause they were the first rubber mounts. "Isolastic", if I remember correctly is what they called the engine mounting system. My Atlas was not rubber mounted, buthell, I was only 21 yrs old, and my body could take the abuse,lol

Man, you should stop paying attention to what others say. sportster is a beautiful bike. It's light and powerfull and you can ride it every day. It's not a poser bike like the big ones and it's not a week end ride. It's a rider's bike. I'm on my second sportster and am considering buying the nightster too. i won't sell my 883. Au contraire,the best "platform", or as we say here in the states "Frame" for handling the FXR frame replaced by the not nearly as good FXD frame. I'll agree to the power to weight ratio, but you can't make a Sporty handle like an FXR, but you can make an FXR have a larger power to weight ratio than any Sporty.

I'll respond to it--everyone in the world knows Harleys aren't the most technologically advanced. No one buys a Harley for that. No one gives a fat fuck about Honda and Kawasaki being the fastest. Ride what you want, and leave the rest of us alone. We buy Harleys because we love the machine. And there must be something very special about Harleys, because the Japanese cruisers, for the longest time, were blatant copies of Harley.
